Adjunct Professor of Music Lauralyn Kolb is instructing 14 young musicians in an intensive week of learning the collaborative aspects of art song performance.  The day camp, being held on the Hamilton campus, concludes with a public performance on Saturday, July 13 at the Stone Presbyterian Church in Clinton. The concert is free and open to the public.  This is the fifth year of this camp that was founded by Kolb and Tina Toglia, piano instructor.

There are seven pairs of singers and pianists who will each perform three short songs at the concert.  The theme of this year's camp is French art songs from the 19th and 20th centuries, featuring works from Berlioz to Poulenc.  The format of the camp includes lectures on this genre, performance skills, and lessons on how to work with a partner.

The students are from New York Mills, Sauquoit, New Hartford, Clinton and Whitesboro high schools.  Margaret Babin, a 2002 graduate of Whitesboro, who sees tremendous improvement in her performance skills in just a week, said,  "Everybody in the group is really talented, which makes the master classes pretty intense; you don't want to sound bad."

Kolb is looking forward to Saturday's performance where she can showcase the talents of this very select group of high school singers and pianists.  For more information on Saturday's performance or the camp contact Professor Kolb at (315) 853-8738.
