Issa Rae, a writer, director and editor of short films will present a lecture on Monday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m., in the Fillius Events Barn. The talk, sponsored by the Feminists of Color Collective, is free and open to the public.

 

Rae will discuss her life and the writing process of her web shows, and will perform a small clip from “Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl.”

 

Rae received her bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and has taken film classes at New York Film Academy and UCLA. Her body of work includes shorts, music videos, and original web series. “Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl” has been featured by such media outlets as CNN, AOL, and Clutch and Essence magazines. She recently signed with UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment with plans to turn “Awkward Black Girl” from a web series into a half-hour television comedy. Her other two series are “Dorm Diaries” and the award-winning “FLY GUYS present the F word.”
