David Palmer '56 has recently posted an essay titled "Rituals and Symbols" on his blog Cosmoticks. Palmer's thoughts and questions are the result of his study of the works of Carl G. Jung, which he first encountered at Vanderbilt Divinity School in 1987. His essay explores the nature of adolescence, the relationship between love and power, and the relation of God to the self:

During the last academic year, Hamilton brought approximately
175 speakers to campus, from a former head of the Securities and Exchange Commission to an award-winning journalist to a Fortune 500 CEO. They presented on myriad topics, from set design to federal budgeting. As a new academic year begins, a review of some of the past visitors and a look at
those who will be on campus this year highlight the diversity of disciplines, views and interests represented on campus as well as the opportunities afforded our students and our community.

Born in Harlem, educated at Hamilton then Harvard, civil rights leader Dr. Robert P. Moses’ life is an inspirational story in the style of 19th century Horatio Alger novels. He graduated from Hamilton in 1956 and founded The Algebra Project (AP) in 1982 as a means to advance public school education, especially in mathematics, for every child. He and the people at The Algebra Project feel that every child is entitled to a proper education in order to succeed in an increasingly technology-based society.
