Spencer is First Alumnus to Arrive for All-Alumni Bicentennial Reunion

As Hamilton celebrated the 200th anniversary of the signing of its charter this past week, Don Spencer ’59 was celebrating his birthday as well. While turning 200 might initially seem like a grander feat than turning 76, Don Spencer’s 76th birthday was far from unremarkable. That’s because Spencer turned 76 while riding a bicycle in the midst of a nearly 500-mile journey from Pittsburgh, Pa., to Hamilton’s Bicentennial Alumni Reunion in Clinton, N.Y.

BIA Recognizes John Crosier '59

On Oct. 26, the Business and Industry Association (BIA) will present former BIA President John Crosier '59 with a Lifetime Achievement award during their 98th Annual Dinner at the Radisson Hotel/Center of New Hampshire in Manchester. The award recognizes business leaders committed to leadership in their careers, communities, and New Hampshire. Recipients mold their communities and state through their business endeavors, participations in local organizations, involvement in boards, and service to the local and state governments. Former U.S. Senator Judd Gregg will also accept a Lifetime Achievement award.

Barclay Ward '59 Represents Hamilton at Sewanee Inauguration

On Tuesday, October 12, Barclay Ward '59 donned his regalia to represent Hamilton at the presidential inauguration of John McCardell, Jr. at the University of the South (Sewanee). A professor of political science at Sewanee, Barclay attended the installation festivities and served as a delegate for the College during the inaugural procession.

“Unmasking the real story of the man that revolutionized hockey,” a USA Today article about the development of the hockey mask in the National Hockey League, features Hamilton’s former track coach Gene Long and alumnus and former Hamilton hockey goalie Don Spencer ’59. The story credits Long with the invention of the prototype for the mask and highlights Spencer’s role as the individual who alerted famed NHL goaltender Jacques Plante to its existence 50 years ago.
