The Huffington Post about Global Youth Service Day (April 23-25). According to Culberston “GYSD is the largest service event in the world, and it's the only day of service that specifically celebrates how young people, ages 5-25, are addressing critical issues such as health, education, human service, human rights and the environment.”

Steve Talevi ’79, P’10 and his wife Jacqueline opened their home to a group of Hamilton students on an Alternative Spring Break trip in March. The students, who volunteered at Habitat for Humanity in Mississippi, spent a night at the Talevi’s home in Roanoke, Va., as a halfway point on their way back to campus. The ASB group included Jennifer Talevi ’10.

Northeast Choir Tour Begins on March 13

Sixty-eight members of the Hamilton College Choir and College Hill Singers will spend the first week of their spring break in March touring the Northeast as part of the annual choir tour. This year's tour will take the choir as far south as Arlington, Va., and north to Burlington, Vt.

Twenty-nine Chinese concentrators met with Bob Delaney ’79 and John Rice ’78, charter trustees of Hamilton College, for an informal conversation about their future careers on March 5. Delaney joined Crestview Partners in 2007 after retiring from Goldman Sachs in 2003 where he served in a variety of leadership positions. Rice currently serves as vice chairman of GE and president & CEO of GE Technology Infrastructure.

Six Hamilton College students have been selected as recipients of the Class of 1979 Student Travel Award. The award, established by the alumni of Hamilton's Class of 1979, offers financial assistance to certain outstanding Hamilton students who wish to pursue extensive research projects in different parts of the world.

On October 1, a new era in Hamilton community service was ushered in with the official opening in the Chapel of Hamilton’s new Community Outreach and Opportunity Project (COOP), a coalition of students and faculty that aims to increase Hamilton’s involvement with community service. The ceremony featured short addresses by staff members involved in COOP, as well as keynote speaker Steve Culbertson '79, president and CEO of Youth Service America, an organization dedicated to increasing availability of service and volunteer projects to young people.
