On Nov. 7, MendelsSongs: Stories of a Neighborhood, lyrics by Alison Loeb '82, music by Felix Mendelssohn, will premiere at the Hebrew Tabernacle in New York City. MendelsSongs consists of 20 real-life stories Loeb gathered from her German Jewish neighbors in Washington Heights, set to Mendelssohn's piano solos, Songs without Words. "While MendelsSongs is about a disappearing community, the songs' themes – about love, loss, growing old and survival – are universal," says Loeb.

Kantrowitz '82 Speaks at Real Analysis Symposium

Robert Kantrowitz '82, professor and chair of mathematics, was a speaker at the Summer Symposium in Real Analysis held this year at The College of Wooster in Ohio, July 13-17. His talk, "Banach algebra norms for spaces of functions of generalized bounded variation," centered around collections of functions of bounded variation that have been known for some time to constitute complete normed linear spaces. Professor of Mathematics Robert Kantrowitz '82 was the colloquium speaker at LeMoyne College's Mathematics Department on April 15. In his talk, "Golf, tee ball, and triangles," Kantrowitz compared various solutions to the problem of determining the angle of launch that maximizes the range of a projectile released from above ground level and landing on a hill. Burgaw, N.C., ASB Group Welcomed by Local Alumni

A group of nine Hamilton students traveled to Burgaw Elementary School near Wilmington, N.C., on their Alternative Spring Break trip, March 21-27. Through this outreach program, they’re helping students with homework and participating in after-school activities. Students on the trip are Trang Nyugen '13, Jennifer Hightower '12, Kristen Scherb '13, Spencer Gulbronson '12, Clare Browne '12, Joelle  Adler '13, Meghan Woolley '13, Ada Horne '13, and Meghan Carter '12.
