Washington Program Students Visit the Pentagon

Students in the Hamilton College Program in Washington, D.C., were treated to a private tour of the Pentagon by Lt. Col. Eric Hannis ’90 on April 16. He is currently serving as the country director for Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan in the Middle East Division of Air Force International Affairs.  More ...

Doug Lemov '90 Returns to Hill to Talk Education Reform

Doug Lemov ’90 returned to the Hill on March 6 to initiate a policy conversation on public education reform.  While encouraging dialogue and discussion throughout his lecture, Lemov expressed his own ideas of how the current educational system can progress in the midst of poverty. In his presentation, titled “Which Reforms Will Save American Education – and Which Will Kill It?” Lemov addressed the different ways in which the nation must improve “the most important sector in a functioning democracy.”  More ...

DC Program Discusses Recounts and Redistricting with Marc Elias ’90

In the Program in Washington, classroom discussions can be connected immediately to the real world of politics and policy. On April 11, for example, students in the morning seminar on campaigns and elections discussed pre-election and post-election disputes. The reading for the class, Jay Weiner’s This Is Not Florida: How Al Franken Won the Minnesota Senate Recount, featured Marc Elias ’90 as the protagonist in the long legal battle. That afternoon, students met with Elias to discuss the 2008 recount and the 2012 election.  More ...

Marc Elias '90, firmwide chair of political law at the Washington, D.C., firm Perkins Coie LLP, will present a lecture titled “Money, Politics, and the 2012 Election,” on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m., in the Bradford Auditorium, KJ. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Marc Elias '90 Profiled on POLITICO.com

On July 27, POLITICO.com featured a profile of Marc Elias '90 in an article titled "50 politicos to watch: Litigators." Elias is a nationally recognized expert in election and campaign finance law who represented John Kerry in his 2004 bid to unseat President Bush and Democrat Al Franken in the recount of the 2008 Minnesota Senate election. In 2008 he was also General Counsel for Chris Dodd's presidential campaign.  In 2010, he served Mark Dayton during the recount for the Minnesota governorship election. Facebook and Google have sought his expertise to clarify how rules apply to their online ads.  More ...
