The law firm Spilman Thomas & Battle has announced that Sarah Patterson '08 has joined its Charleston office. Patterson will practice in consumer finance litigation and assist with research, pleadings, discovery, and trial preparation. She was most recently a legal research and writing teaching assistant at West Virginia University College of Law.

“Live your passion.” It’s a mantra Melissa Kong ’08 has repeated many times—she even uses it as the title of her blog.  On Sept. 3, Kong returned to share her passion with 45 members of the class of 2014 at the inaugural Sophomore JumpStart, a program focused on translating the dreams and passions of the sophomore class into concrete skills and ideas for the working world.

Franklin Conducts Workshops in Republic of Georgia

A. Todd Franklin, professor of philosophy, conducted six days of workshops from Aug. 2-7 on the nature of a liberal arts education as part of an academic summer camp for students of LOGOS, a private high school in Tbilisi, Georgia. Founded by Giorgi Chavleishvili ’08, LOGOS is unlike other high schools in the Republic of Georgia, providing students with a full college prep curriculum consisting mainly of small discussion oriented classes.

A paper co-authored by Associate Professor of Psychology Jennifer Borton was published in the March-April issue of The Journal of Social Psychology. “Does Suppressing the Thought of a Self-Relevant Stigma Affect Interpersonal Interaction?” was co-written with David Reiner ’05, Erica Vazquez ’08, Jessica Ruddiman ’09 and Stephanie Anglin ’10.

Mars & Co is a global management consulting firm specializing in business strategy and operational improvement.

Pellman and Raimondi '08 Present ngc 6357 in Vienna

Leonard C. Ferguson Professor of Music Samuel Pellman presented ngc 6357, a recent composition with video by Miranda Raimondi '08, in September, to a packed house at the Musikbar Rhiz in Vienna. The event was part of the Kyma International Sound Symposium, which included computer musicians from academic posts and the recording industry in Europe and North America.
