Zurlo ’14 and Ng ’14 Research BPA in Beverages

Canada has recently declared a chemical known as BPA to be a toxic substance. Europe has partially banned BPA from consumer products. The United States also faces a similar push to remove BPA from products in which the chemical can be ingested. Claire Zurlo ’14, a recipient of an Emerson Summer Grant, and Amanda Ng ’14, funded with summer research funds, will spend the summer contributing to this effort. They will work with Professor of Chemistry Tim Elgren to perform a BPA analysis on various beer samples.

Before coming to Hamilton, Sam Reider ’14 created a decision tool on a whiteboard to help organize his college choices. During his first year on campus, he converted his process into an automated program and loaded it onto his site www.CollegePick.us. The New York TimesThe Choice, a site designed to “demystify college admissions and aid,” featured Reider’s site in a March 8 article, Online Aid for Making ‘The Decision,’ From a College Freshman.

Hamilton College Welcomes the Class of 2014

August 21, 2010 
Orientation begins on Saturday, Aug. 21, for members of the Class of 2014. After move-in, President Joan Hinde Stewart will welcome the class and their families at 1:30 p.m. in Wellin Hall. Opening ceremonies for students begin at 3:30 p.m., and a first-year block party will take place at 6 p.m. on Dunham Quad. Various orientation activities will take place each day until classes begin on Thursday, Aug. 26.
