Many Hamilton students and alumni talk about the value of the “Hamilton network” in helping them explore careers, find internships or jobs, or simply provide advice. For nine students interested in filmmaking that network came alive when Benjamin Eckstein ’01 conducted an intense two-day workshop on the Hill on April 20-21.

Richard Burns '77, executive director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Community Center in New York City, will present a lecture, “LGBTQ Rights: Past, Present and Future” on Wednesday, May 1, at 5 p.m., in the Red Pit, KJ. Burns will discuss how he connected his passion for social justice to a career and what he sees as the past, present and future of the LGBTQ rights movement. The lecture is free, open to the public and sponsored by the Days-Massolo Center.

On Thursday, April 11, 18 members of the LARISSA (Larsen Ice Shelf System Antarctica) science team and 26 additional scientists from the Korean Polar Research Institute sailed from  Chile toward the Antarctic Peninsula on the Korean Icebreaker Research Vessel ARAON. Among the LARISSA researchers are Eugene Domack, the J. W. Johnson Family Professorship of Environmental Studies, and his former advisee, alumnus Andrew Christ ’11, who is providing continuing information and images throughout the expedition via a blog on the LARISSA site.

“Good News, Bad News, and Consumer Confidence,” by Greg Casey ’09 and Henry Platt Bristol Professor of Economics of Ann Owen, was published in the March issue of Social Science Quarterly.

John G. Rice ’78, vice chair of General Electric Company (GE), was featured on Bloomberg Television’s “Surveillance” in an interview that identified him as a graduate of Hamilton College and referenced the College’s Economics department.

Assistant Professor of Biology Wei-Jen Chang and his thesis students, Tani Leigh ’12 and Matthew Therkelsen ’12, presented during the Protist2012 conference held July 29-Aug. 3 at the University of Oslo in Norway.

Research Associate Leanne Hirshfield ’02 was named 2011 Young Technologist of the Year by the Mohawk Valley Engineers’ Executive Council (MVEEC). According to the MVEEC, the award acknowledges the winner’s work and “contributions to our area’s knowledge base and to the next generation of technologists.”

 A.G. Lafley, former president, CEO and board chair of the Procter & Gamble Company, delivered one of two keynote addresses at the “Rethinking Success: From the Liberal Arts to Careers in the 21st Century” conference held April 11-13 at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Brian Levin-Stankevich ’72 was named president of Westminster College on March 27. He is currently the chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, a position he has held since 2006, and was previously interim president of Eastern Washington University.

Commencement speaker A.G. Lafley '69, Hamilton’s Board of Trustees chair and former Procter & Gamble chairman and  CEO, was interviewed by Adweek along with his six fellow Advertising Hall of Fame 2012 inductees in a March 18 article, "What Makes a Legend Tick?" The New York Times Sunday Book Review included a favorable review of a new book, Coral Glynn, by 2012 honorary degree recipient Peter Cameron '82, on the same day.
