NY Program Visits Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Bob Kinkel '79

NYC Program students spent a recent morning with Hamilton alumnus Bob Kinkel ’79 at Spin Recording Studios, a 4,000 square foot, world-class audio recording  studio in Long Island City.  Kinkel is a professional keyboardist and music engineer best known for his role as a co-creator/co-producer/co-composer and touring keyboardist with Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Educator Barbara Madeloni K’81 will present a lecture titled “Jamming the Machine: Education for Democracy not Corporatocracy,” on Monday, Feb. 18, at 4:15 p.m., in the Red Pit, Kirner-Johnson Building.  Madeloni is a senior lecturer in the Teacher Education program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her lecture is co-sponsored by Hamilton’s Comparative Literature and Education departments, and is free and open to the public.

Hamilton Timeline Debuts

Immerse yourself in a visual and textual telling of Hamilton history with the new Hamilton Timeline, a dramatic digital rendering of the Hill past and present.  The timeline, designed to celebrate Hamilton’s Bicentennial, recounts the history of the college starting with the pre-Hamilton days and Samuel Kirkland’s plan to educate the Indians. Significant events in Hamilton’s history are portrayed through photos and text.

John Kunkel '04 and Kevin Bourque '05 Develop the FaceGlove to Aid Skiers

Founders of the Outeru Gear Company John Kunkel '04 and Kevin Bourque '05 have developed an innovative product in face protection known as FaceGlove.  Instead of covering the whole face, the FaceGlove features a minimalist design that targets only the parts of the face most sensitive to frostbite and sunburn.

Hamilton College is number No. 18 on Peace Corps’ 2013 Top Colleges for small schools, those with a student population under 5,000. The annual list recognizes the highest volunteer-producing colleges and universities in the U.S. for small, medium, large and graduate institutions.

Zeller Was Embedded Combat Adviser With Afghan Security Forces

Matt Zeller ’04, who served as an embedded combat adviser with the Afghan security forces in Ghazni and then wrote about his experiences, will give a lecture on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m., in the Bradford Auditorium, KJ. The lecture, titled after his book “Watches Without Time: An American Soldier in Afghanistan,” is free and open to the public.

Senior Art Concentrators, Faculty Make Annual Trek to NYC Studios

After their original plans to visit the studios of professional artists fell through in October due to damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, nine senior art concentrators and art faculty were able to reschedule the always-anticipated trip and visit New York City on Jan. 24-27.
