Gant Named New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow

Associate Professor of Art Ella Gant was named a 2011 Fellow in digital/electronic arts by the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). NYFA awarded $728,000 in unrestricted cash grants of $7,000 to 105 artists throughout New York State. Fellows were selected from a pool of 3,692 applicants in the categories of crafts/sculpture; digital/electronic work; non-fiction literature; printmaking/drawing/book arts, and poetry.  More ...

Emerson Gallery Student Art Invitational 2011 Opens June 2

The Emerson Gallery Student Art Invitational 2011 features artwork from 16 students who recently completed courses in the visual arts at Hamilton College and celebrates their creativity. The exhibition includes photography, video, sculpture, drawing, painting and mixed media ranging from introductory to advanced academic levels. The exhibition opens on Thursday, June 2, and will close Tuesday, Aug. 30, with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.  More ...

Emerson Gallery Presents Senior Art Show

The Senior Art Show 2011, a presentation of works by 11 graduating art majors, will open at the Emerson Gallery on Thursday, April 21. The exhibition includes photography, drawing, painting, mixed media and sculpture. An opening reception will be held Thursday, April 21, from 4-6 p.m. at the gallery. Murtaugh Exhibits at Portland Gallery

Associate Professor of Art Rebecca Murtaugh is exhibiting two works in the exhibition PXL at Anka Gallery in Portland, Ore. "A Microcosmic View of the Dot" and "Cyclical Perspective" will be on view for the month of April. The exhibition features the work of 11 American artists whose work is influenced by the pixel. The show was inspired by Russell A. Kirsch, the progenitor of the pixel and the new variable shaped pixel.  More ...

Opening Reception for Atelier Four is April 10

The opening reception for an exhibition of prints by the Atelier Four will be held Sunday, April 10, from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Kirkland Arts Center. The Atelier Four is William R. Kenan Professor of Art Bruce Muirhead, Professor of Art and Curator of the Hamilton Collects Program William Salzillo and artists Amy Georgia Buchholz ’80 and Jake Muirhead ’86. Several prints by William R. Kenan Professor of Art Bruce Muirhead and Professor of Art William Salzillo are on display at the Bradley International Print and Drawing Exhibition in Peoria, Ill. Included in the exhibition are Muirhead’s “Secret Viewers” and “Fourth of July,” and “Nightingale” by Salzillo. Associate Professor of Art Rebecca Murtaugh has the art installation “Confection” featured in The Stone Canoe 5: Signs of Life in Culture. The journal is an annual national publication of writing, art and ideas showcasing the work of emerging and established artists with a connection to Central New York.
