Hamilton Faculty Compete in Covered Bridges Half Marathon
Three Hamilton College faculty members competed in the 13th annual Covered Bridges Half Marathon in South Central Vermont on June 6. Associate Professor of Philosophy Katheryn Doran, Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy Celeste Friend and Assistant Professor of Sociology Jenny Irons were among participants in the 13.1 mile race. It began in South Pomfret, Vt. and continued through Woodstock and into Quechee. Runners cross over or pass by four covered bridges along the route. More ...

First HamTrek Spring Triathalon to Take Place on May 7

HamTrek, the Hamilton College Community’s first spring sprint triathlon, will be held on Class and Charter Day, Friday, May 7, at 2:30 p.m. The event is a way for the college community to get together for some fun competition between students, faculty, staff, alumni, family and administration. HamTrek is sponsored by the President’s Office, Pepsi Co., the Athletic Department, Intramural Sports and Student Activities.   More ...

Hamilton-Syracuse University Curling Team Takes Bronze in National Tourney
Adam Bedient '04 and Dave Ewing '04, along with two students from Syracuse University, competed as the Hamilton/Syracuse team in the College Curling National Tournament in St. Paul, Minn., March 12-14. The team won the Bronze medal in Division III. More ...
Tsakane Ngobeni '07 Featured in South Africa Sunday Times
Hamilton College student Tsakane Ngobeni '07, forward on the man's basketball team, was featured in the South Africa Sunday Times (12/21/03) in an article about his recent basketball success. Ngobeni was voted Rookie of the Week in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association for two consecutive weeks, December 1 and 8. More ...
"The Goal Striving Process in Athletes: Raising the Bar and Missing the Mark"

Kevin Williams, a former athlete as well as  former cross-country and track coach at SUNY Albany, is now part of its industrial organizational psychology department.  He has a degree in human psychology focusing primarily on motivation and performance.  Williams gave a lecture at Hamilton College on November 15  titled "The Goal Striving Process in Athletes: Raising the Bar and Missing the Mark". 

There are some students in college who excelled in sports in high school, but for one reason or another no longer participate in sports at the collegiate level.  There are a number of different reasons or circumstances for this, but more often than not it is because of a poor first experience.  More ...

Lecture, The Psychological Aspects of Athletic Performance

Sports psychologist Kevin Williams, of the Psychology department at SUNY Albany, will give a lecture, "The Goal Striving Process in Athletes: Raising the Bar and Missing the Mark," on Friday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m. in the Science auditorium. Free and open to the public.

Simon's Book Fair Play Revised
Professor of Philosophy Bob Simon's book <i>Fair Play</i>, about the ethics of athletics, has been revised and published by Westview Press (August, 2004). According to the book jacket, "<i>Fair Play</i> is a rigorous exploration of the ethical presuppositions of competitive athletics and their connection both to ethical theory and to concrete moral dilemmas that arise in actual athletic competition. Professor Simon develops a model of athletic competition as a mutually acceptable quest for excellence and applies it to a variety of ethical issues that arise in sport." More ...
Hamilton Basketball Camp Bounces into Action
Hamilton Basketball Head Coach Tom Murphy begins his two-week long basketball camps this week. The Hamilton camp is a day camp that goes from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and involves instruction, drills, and lecture for basketball players of all ages. Each week is split up by age groups according to player’s school grade and/or age. More ...
Maggie Hanson Continues To Run (and Win) Post-Hamilton
Maggie Hanson, a 2002 Hamilton Graduate who led the Lady Continentals' Cross Country and Track teams, has experienced continuing running success since graduating. The 23 year-old former All-American won the women's title in the Beach to Beacon 10K road race that took place on August 2 in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. More ...
