College Democrats and Republicans Face Off in Gun Control Debate

After a busy fall semester that included a massive voter registration drive and watch parties for the presidential debates and election night, the College Democrats and College Republicans have shifted their focus this semester to achieving their common goal of increasing political engagement on campus. This week, they hosted a debate that pitted two teams against each other on a controversial subject in a forum that made room for audience participation.

Hamilton Students Attend 57th Inauguration Ceremony

Although many Hamilton students just finished arriving on campus for the spring semester, a group of 55 students quickly turned around and boarded a bus late Sunday night for a 24-hour round trip to Washington, D.C., to attend the Inauguration Day ceremony for President Barack Obama’s second term.

Hamilton College Democrats, Prof. Mark Cryer Among Attendees

Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer is among members of the Hamilton community who are in Washington, D.C. for President Barack Obama’s inauguration today.  The Hamilton College Democrats left for Washington at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, and arrived today at 4 a.m.  Jack Cartwright ’15  is one of the students there to watch the inauguration with his father, Matt Cartwright ’83, a new member of Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 17th district.

Students Participate in Live National Poll during Presidential Debate

October 3, 2012 

Tonight Hamilton students will participate with students from six universities across the country in a live, pilot polling project during the presidential debate. Via a new smart phone application, more than a hundred students will be able to “register their in-the-moment reactions to what candidates are saying during a debate, using button taps (e.g. Agree and Disagree), and answering pre- and post-debate survey questions (e.g. partisanship, issue priorities, demographics),” according to the developer’s website.

Dietra Harvey grew up in a household where critical citizenship and voting were basic tenets of family life. Today, in the same way she was brought into the voting booth as a young girl by her parents, Harvey carries on the tradition by bringing her own children to the polls every November.

The Hamilton College Republicans and Democrats joined forces early this morning to place 3,000 miniature American flags along Martin's Way, in remembrance of the close to 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Hamilton College Democrats Members Engage in Summer Work

The Hamilton College Democrats is a campus student group that works throughout the school year to promote civic engagement in the Hamilton community as well as support the politics of the Democratic Party. Several members have also taken the opportunity this summer to get involved in the political process through internships and volunteering.
