Lafley '69, Hamilton’s Board of Trustees chair and former Procter & Gamble chairman and CEO, was interviewed by Adweek along with his six fellow Advertising Hall of Fame 2012 inductees in a March 18 article, "What Makes a Legend Tick?" The New York Times Sunday Book Review included a favorable review of a new book, Coral Glynn, by 2012 honorary degree recipient Peter Cameron '82, on the same day.

Six prizes were awarded across three categories in the annual Public Speaking Competition on Saturday, March 3, in the Chapel. The 18 finalists were chosen after an open preliminary round held in February. Speakers’ presentations were either persuasive or informative in nature, and in one category, students were asked to address an assigned topic.

Professor of Communication Catherine W. Phelan chaired a panel on “Censorship in the Digital Age” at the International Communication Association (ICA) conference held May 30 in Boston. Conference participants from Singapore, Israel and the United States presented a trans-national comparison of the cultural practices regarding censorship.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Communication Cheryl Casey presented a paper titled "Oppression by Convenience/The Convenience of Oppression: Sexist Language Habits and the Ethics of Classroom Discussion" at the annual convention of the Eastern Communication Association in Arlington, Va., on April 16. The paper was sponsored by the Institute for General Semantics and was awarded that division's Top Paper.

Seven students were inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication honor society, on Oct. 31, at a brunch that included faculty, students and families. The new members are seniors Lauren DiGregoria, Daniel Hagemeier, Greg Kreitzer, Kate Northway and Elsie Swank, and juniors Ephraim McDowell and Perry Ryan. They join current member and chapter president Sarah Goodell '11. In addition, Northway was elected vice president and Swank was chosen as secretary.
