Students Experience Rural China in ACC Field Studies Program
Hamilton students Ashley Chang ’10, Chelsea Stone ’10 and John Garrison ’10, along with 13 other students selected nationally, were awarded grants to participate in Associated Colleges in China (ACC) Field Studies program this summer. The program’s purpose was to help students who have previously studied abroad in a language-intensive program in China retain their high level of Chinese ability. It also aimed to help American students develop a better understanding of rural China and the China that is situated “outside of study-abroad programs.” For seniors Chang, Stone and Garrison, this seemed like a deal too good to be true.

Xu Presents Invited Talk at Taiwan Conference
De Bao Xu, professor of Chinese, was invited to give a talk (co-authored with Hong Gang Jin) titled "Evaluation and Measurement of Participation and Interactivity in Participatory Web Tools" at ICICE 2009, the 6th International Conference on Internet Chinese Education, Taipei, Taiwan, June 19-21. President of Republic of China Yingjiu Ma delivered the welcome speech at the opening ceremony of the conference, which welcomed more than 500 professionals. More ...
Jin to Serve as President of National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages
Hong Gang Jin, the William R. Kenan Professor of East Asian Languages and Literatures, will serve as president of the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages (NCOLCTL) for 2008-2009 and 2009-2010. She was previously vice-president. Jin will work with an executive board of seven members and 18 delegate assembly representatives of different language associations.
