David Backus '75 Hosts NYU Lecture for NYC Program

The students on Hamilton’s NYC program attended a lecture at NYU’s Stern School of Business, hosted by David Backus ’75, a professor of economics at Stern. The lecture covered topics from foreign exchange to the European crisis to the current fiscal problems facing the United States.  More ...

NY Program Students, Alumni Gather for Wall St. Association Event

Hamilton’s semi-annual Wall Street Association meeting on Oct. 5 featured a discussion on the current state of the capital markets with a panel of alumni experts. The event at the Racquet and Tennis Club was moderated by Susan Skerritt K’77, P’11,  of The Bank of New York Mellon. NY Program Students Volunteer at Bowery Mission

It’s inevitable that at times we can get down on ourselves, daunted by the prospect of what lies ahead. The threat of a double dip recession, prolonged unemployment after graduation, or even just a bad grade on a homework assignment can darken one’s outlook. At these moments, it's important to put things into perspective, as Hamilton Program in New York students learned on Oct. 1 while volunteering at the Bowery Mission, the oldest such establishment in New York City.

Balkan Gives Talk at European Working Lives Workshop
Professor of Economics Erol Balkan gave a talk, "Labor in the Global Economic Crisis," at the 3rd annual workshop on European Working Lives. The workshop was titled "European Working Lives in Crisis" and was sponsored jointly by Working Lives Research Institute-London Metropolitan University and Istanbul Bilgi University in Istanbul, June 4-5. Teaching Awards Presented to Balkan, Kuharic, Murtaugh and Thompson

Hamilton College's highest awards for teaching were presented on May 8 to four faculty members. Professor of Economics Erol Balkan, Katherine Kuharic, the Kevin W. Kennedy Associate Professor of Art, Assistant Professor of Art Rebecca Murtaugh and Dave Thompson, director of the Fitness and Dance Center and Wellness Programs and professor of physical education, were honored with teaching awards.
