Ann Owen, the Henry Platt Bristol Professor of Economics, spoke with The Christian Science Monitor for an article titled “Time to refinance your mortgage? Rates hit historic lows” published on Sept. 27. She discussed the current inflation rate as it relates to fixed-rate loan rates and how increased housing and mortgage demand might change borrowing rates. She also addressed the possible effect of Federal Reserve actions.

Finance Bootcamp Helps Students Explore Careers in Finance Industry

Can you imagine waking up at 6 a.m. on a Saturday and making a trip from Clinton to New York City and back in the same day? That’s exactly what a group of highly motivated Hamilton students did on September 15 as they attended the Career Center’s first Finance Bootcamp. Jennifer Hill ’87, CFO of Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s investment bank, as well as Candace Browning P’10, the head of Global Research at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, hosted the event in New York at the Bank of America Tower.

Mao Ding’s ’14 work schedule is anything if not intimidating. Ding arrives at his internship at New York City’s Capital Priority Management LLC at 8:30 a.m. and stays till 6 p.m. Priority Capital Management is a $30 million hedge fund that specializes in managing assets for high-net-worth investors in the high-yield bond market.

Investment Banker Peter Tague '88 Traces Career Path for Balkan Class

Peter Tague ’88 delivered a talk to Professor Erol Balkan’s International Finance class on April 12 in KJ.  A lifetime investment banker, Tague was recently promoted to the position of global head of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) for Citigroup, and is also a vice chairman of the firm. Tague covered a myriad of topics for the class, ranging from the current crises in Greece and the greater Eurozone to how a typical M&A transaction works, and even attempted to answer the question, “Will China take over the world?”

As Hamilton’s trustees gathered this past week on the Hill for their meetings, two alumni took the opportunity to speak with a select group of students about career paths, life, and the state of the global economy. Rob Morris ’76 and Henry Bedford ’76 spoke to students in Professor Erol Balkan’s International Finance course on March 1 and 2, respectively, providing perspective on topics relevant to the class’s course material.

Bret Lineberry ’11 found success in the post-graduate job search largely thanks to a valuable connection with a Hamilton alumnus. A May graduate with a degree in economics and world politics,  she’ll soon begin working in finance for General Electric in Atlanta.
