Golf Teams Among HAVOC MLK Day Volunteers

Members of the men’s and women’s golf teams participated in the Jan. 23 HAVOC MLK Service Day.  They moved office furniture and organized files at the Samaritan Counseling Center. A record 195 Hamilton students took part in the 18th annual event, volunteering at 22 local non-profit organizations.  More ...

Hamilton Athletes Read at Local Elementary Schools

Some Hamilton athletes took time from preparing for finals to read to children at several local elementary schools on Dec. 4.  Athletes representing many of Hamilton’s varsity teams went to Sauquoit, Clinton and Whitesboro Elementary Schools and read to K-5th grade classrooms.   More ...

HAVOC Raises $1,026 for Utica Public Library Early Literacy Program

The Hamilton Association for Volunteering, Outreach and Charity (HAVOC) recently donated $1,026. to the Utica Public Library for its backpack exchange program.  The early literacy program offers themed activity backpacks for infants to children age 5.  Each backpack includes books, musical CDs, activities list and educational toys. These are borrowed by parents and caregivers to expand the library experience to the home.  More ...

The Hamilton Association for Volunteering Outreach and Charity (HAVOC) general board hosted an education and literacy panel on Nov. 17 which discussed libraries, the Common Core and the critical importance of early childhood literacy. The four panelists were Adjunct Professor Richard Hunt, Director of the Utica Public Library Darby O’Brien, America Reads Student Co-Director Erica Quach ’16, and Brian Sobotko ’16, head tutor at A Better Chance (ABC) House.  More ...

More than 125 Hamilton students took part in the 14th annual Hamilton Association for Volunteering Outreach and Charity (HAVOC) Make a Difference Day. Individual students, teams and groups signed up for a wide range of volunteer opportunities to engage in for the day.  More ...

17th Annual MLK Service Day is Jan. 24

Nearly 150 students will gather for Hamilton’s 17th annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Service Day on Saturday, Jan. 24. The community service event, run by the Hamilton Association for Volunteering, Outreach and Charity ( HAVOC), sends students to a wide variety of non-profit organizations across the area for volunteer work.  More ...

Holiday Gifts From HAVOC and COOP

Hamilton community service programs HAVOC and COOP collected food, gifts and other items to make the holidays a bit happier for some local families. The Hamilton Association for Volunteering, Outreach and Charity (HAVOC) sponsored a holiday Mitten Tree, bearing gift requests from children with a need.  The children’s gift requests came through House of Good Shepherd,  Johnson Park Center (JPC) in Utica, Upstate Cerebral Palsy, Siegenthaler Center (Hospice) and Rome DSS.  More ...

HAVOC Dodgeball Tournament Brings the Excitement

More than 160 students geared up for some fierce competition on Nov. 15 as Hamilton Association for Volunteering Outreach and Charity (HAVOC) hosted its 13th Annual Dodgeball Tournament. The event raised more than $775 for Hamilton’s first Team IMPACT player, Sophia Johnson.  More ...

Students "Paws" to Relax as Semester Ends

In what has become a once-a-semester event,  students were able to take a break from studying for finals and spend some time relaxing with pets  during HAVOC’s  “Paws to Relax” in the Annex on May 8.  More than 15 faculty and staff dogs came by for a visit with students.  Hamilton students signed up for $5, 10-minute time slots and donations went to Spring Farm Cares, a local animal sanctuary.  More ...
