Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies Joana Sabadell-Nieto presented a paper at the Kentucky Foreign Language Conference held April 18-20 at the University of Kentucky. The presentation was part of a panel on “relationalities” organized and chaired by Sabadell-Nieto.

A group of Hamilton College students are sharing their knowledge of the Spanish language with some very young learners this year. They’re volunteering their time to tutor first grade and kindergarten students in Spanish at Clinton Central Schools (CCS). Organized by Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies Edna Rodríguez-Plate, the program began at the start of this academic year.

Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies Edna Rodriguez-Plate presented “Nuevos Panoramas, nuevas historias: el cine cubano después del periodo especial” (New Panoramas, New Histories: Cuban Cinema after the Special Period) at the XXX International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association in San Francisco in May.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies Irene Depetris Chauvin presented a paper at the Society for Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS) annual conference March 21-25 in Boston.

Marta Segarra, professor of French literature and gender studies at the University of Barcelona, will present a lecture titled “Self-portrait as Fiction: Histories of Women Artists” on Thursday, April 12, at 8 p.m., in room 101 in the Kirner-Johnson Building. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Visiting Instructor of Hispanic Studies Alessandra Chiriboga presented “Differing Performances, Differing Modernities: Early Central American Experimental Theatre” on March 3 at the 20th Southeast Conference on Foreign Languages, Literatures and Films at Stetson University in DeLand, Fla.

Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies Jessica Burke presented at the Twentieth Southeast Conference on Foreign Languages and Films at Stetson University in DeLand, Fla., on March 3.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies Irene Depetris Chauvin published an article titled “Voice, Music and the Experience of the Neutral in Martín Rejtman’s Fictions” in the spring issue of Hybrid Storyspaces: Redefining the Critical Enterprise in Twenty-First Century Hispanic Literature.

Irene Depetris Chauvin, visiting assistant professor of Hispanic Studies, published an article in Confluenze. Rivista di Studi Iberoamericani - Università di Bologna Vol 3, No 2 (2011). The article is titled “Cartografía para los recuerdos: Barcelona y la(s) memoria(s) de la posguerra en Los mares del Sur de Manuel Vázquez Montalbán.”
