WAMC/Northeast Public Radio in Albany will feature a reading by Professor of Government and Director of the Public Policy Program P. Gary Wyckoff on Thursday, Oct. 7, as part of the public radio station’s Academic Minute. The program normally airs each weekday at 7:37 a.m. and 3:56 p.m at 90.3 FM in the Clinton area but because WAMC is in its fall fund drive, the Academic Minute will not air at its usual times. Instead, it will be played as a floating module throughout the day.

In “Honesty Suits Golf to a Tee” (9/26/10), the writer reports that 14-year-old Zach Nash is returning the first-place medal he won at a tournament in August after he realized he inadvertently played the match with an illegal number of clubs in his bag. USA Today Includes Fast-a-thon in Education Blog

In her education blog on the USA Today website, Mary Beth Marklein reported on how some colleges have promoted religious and cultural awareness “even before Florida preacher Terry Jones announced plans to burn the Quran this weekend.” Included in a summary of how “colleges have been seeking ways to counter anti-Muslim sentiment on campus and promote understanding of religious and cultural diversity” was a description of Hamilton’s recent fast-a-thon in which 170 Muslim and non-Muslim students participated in a fast and post-fast dinner. One of the reasons for holding the annual event is to offer non-Muslim students the opportunity to experience what Muslims practice for an entire month. More ...

Ma Rainey Scores Three Stars in Edinburgh

Hamilton’s student production of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival received a three star rating in Edinburgh Festival Magazine. The cast performed August Wilson's Ma Rainey for Hamilton’s annual Martin Luther King Day celebration in January, and took the show to Edinburgh on Aug. 11-22. Christopher Russell, visiting assistant professor of art, is exhibiting work in a group show at Kinkead Contemporary in Los Angeles that was reviewed in The Los Angeles Times (8/13/10). Taking its cues from the game commonly called “Telephone” or “Stille Post,” this exhibition asked each curator to choose an artist who then chose a curator who chose an artist in succession until seven artists and seven curators were selected.
