As is the custom at Hamilton, the Dean of Faculty recognizes retiring faculty and hosts a reception in their honor at the last faculty meeting of the academic year. On May 16, Dean of Faculty Patrick Reynolds honored four professors retiring this year: Professor of  Anthropology Charlotte Beck; Jim Bradfield, the Elias W. For the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks Associate Professor of Music Heather Buchman conducted a special concert for remembrance and healing at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Syracuse. The concert was organized by Syracuse-based theater director Victoria King who witnessed the attacks at close hand.

How to Determine the Meaning of a Sacred Text, a collection of 22 essays by Walcott-Bartlett Professor of Religion Jay Williams ’54, was recently published by Edwin Mellen Press. The essays, written over a period of almost 40 years, cover a variety of subjects including mythology, the Hebrew scriptures, Confucian texts, Buddhist texts, gospels and classical spiritual poetry.
