Hamilton College Democrats, Prof. Mark Cryer Among Attendees

Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer is among members of the Hamilton community who are in Washington, D.C. for President Barack Obama’s inauguration today.  The Hamilton College Democrats left for Washington at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, and arrived today at 4 a.m.  Jack Cartwright ’15  is one of the students there to watch the inauguration with his father, Matt Cartwright ’83, a new member of Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 17th district.

Emerson Grant Recipient Creates Street Theater Performance Piece

Societal pressures shape the way in which many young people develop into adulthood. In fact, cultural norms are so ubiquitous that there are few examples of people who truly break the mold. Kadahj Bennett ’12, an Emerson Summer Grant recipient, is working with Associate Professor of Theater Mark Cryer to create an interdisciplinary, innovative street theater performance piece, Letters to the Shadows in the Sky, on the male black identity in modern society.

Hamilton's Ma Rainey Takes Show to Edinburgh Fringe Festival

A group of Hamilton students, alumni and Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer are taking their show on the road as they prepare to perform Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, by August Wilson, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on Aug. 11-22. Cryer Plays King Claudius in Saratoga's Hamlet

Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer is playing King Claudius in Hamlet with the Saratoga Shakespeare Festival. Performances are held Tuesday through Saturday, July 13-17 and July 20-24, at 6 p.m. and Sunday, July 18 and 25, at 3 p.m. in on the Alfred Z. Solomon Stage in Saratoga Springs' Congress Park. Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer performed his one-man show, 99 Questions You've Always Wanted to Ask an African American But Were Too Afraid to Ask, at Lafayette College, Easton, Pa., on April 17 for new admitted students. Cryer created the play with a student, Jared Johnson '02, who conducted interviews of people in New York City to arrive at the questions. More ...

Fires in the Mirror to be Performed at Cazenovia College

Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer will stage a performance of Fires in the Mirror by Anna Deavere Smith at Cazenovia College on Friday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. in the Catherine E. Cummings Theatre. Two sold-out shows were performed at Hamilton on Jan. 19 and 20 to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. More ...
