Hamilton was well-represented at the Hudson River Undergraduate Mathematics Conference (HRUMC XVIII) on April 16 at Skidmore College when 10 math majors presented talks on a wide range of topics.

“Submultiplicativity of Norms for Spaces of Generalized BV-functions,” an article by Robert Kantrowitz ’82, professor and chair of mathematics, was published in the current issue of Real Analysis Exchange.

Students from the Hamilton Mathletics team won first place in the annual Snow Bowl competition, edging out teams from Colgate University, Skidmore College and Saint Lawrence University. This year's team score of 98 points is Hamilton's highest score on record (records date back to 1993).

Andrew Dykstra, assistant professor of mathematics, gave a colloquium talk at Northwestern University on March 15. Dykstra's talk described recent work with his Hamilton colleague Michelle LeMasurier and Ethan Coven from Wesleyan University.

Professor of Mathematics Richard Bedient presented a workshop for the mathematics faculty at Pittsfield High School in Pittsfield, Mass., on March 11, as part of the department's professional development program. The topic was an introduction to fractal geometry and was based on a summer workshop program at Yale in which Bedient participated for a number of years. He also spoke to a math class on the same topic.

Professor of Mathematics Debra Boutin recently gave two invited talks on an area of her current research. One was an expository talk to a general mathematical audience at St. Michael's College in Vermont. The other was a more technical talk to graph theorists at the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics Southeastern Atlantic Section Conference at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Professor of Mathematics Dick Bedient served as moderator for the debate "Derivative vs. Integral: The final showdown” during the Joint Meetings of the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America held Jan. 6-9, in New Orleans.

Louis Boguchwal ’12 and Dan Kamenetsky ’11 presented posters detailing the results of research they conducted last summer, at the Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) held Jan. 6-9, in New Orleans.

Professor of Mathematics Debra Boutin recently published a research article titled "More Results on r-inflated Graphs: Arboricity, Thickness, Chromatic Number, and Fractional Chromatic Number" in Ars Mathematica Contemporanea.

Members of the Young People’s Project hosted the third semi-annual “Math Bash” on Saturday, Dec. 11, in the Annex.
