Emma Simmons '11 Joins Citizen Schools

Disadvantaged children in struggling schools are often not given a chance to succeed, and public school systems are sometimes unable to find the resources to encourage or inspire some of their students. Emma Simmons ’11 is working as a teaching fellow for Citizen Schools, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering students from struggling schools across the country.

Recent Hamilton graduate Leide Cabral ’11 has an impressive background in community service, and has especially contributed to the fight against educational inequality. Cabral, who graduated with a degree in mathematics, has recently begun work in Boston with the Young People’s Project (YPP), an organization that develops students from traditionally marginalized populations as learners, teachers and leaders for the future.

While LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) subjects are a hot topic, many people remain unaware of the experiences of this community.  LGBTQ sensitivity is a major issue for middle and high schools, colleges and universities, businesses and organizations around the country and many do not know where and how to start addressing these issues.  Recent graduate Megan Bolger '11 has founded an organization, Pride For All, in order to provide educational services and information on this topic.

Ashlyn Razzo ’11 loves working with children. A recent Hamilton graduate, Razzo knew that she wanted to spend her future working with underprivileged youth, giving back to the kind of community in which she grew up. Razzo will be serving as a 2011 corps member in Miami for Teach For America (TFA), the non-profit organization dedicated to ending educational inequality in the United States.

Kevin Graepel '11 to Begin Research at NIH

June 13, 2011 

For Kevin Graepel ’11, a career in biomedical research is a goal that he has been working toward since his first year at Hamilton. Graepel, who graduated with a degree in chemistry last month, will take the next step in realizing his goal as he begins a two-year stint conducting research in Bethesda, Maryland, on viral pathogenesis and vaccine development for the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Williams ’11 Joins Community HealthCorps

June 8, 2011 

Recent Hamilton graduate Caitlyn Williams ’11 is thrilled to be entering into a position with the  Community HealthCorps Program, a division of AmeriCorps later this summer as a school-based health center coordinator. Williams will be working with Open Door Family Medical Center in the medically underserved community of Port Chester, New York.
