NYC Program Visits Metropolitan Museum of Art

Students participating in the fall 2012 New York City Program were fortunate to receive a private tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Sept. 5 as their first outing of the semester.  The excursion was guided by Richard Turnbell, chair of the Department of Art History at FIT.  The current program, led by Professor of Economics Christophre Georges, has 15 participants.  More ...

NYC Program Concludes Semester With Trips to Christie's and Zoo

Two weeks ago, on the day before Christie’s New York City spring auction of post-war and contemporary art, students and faculty of Hamilton’s New York program received a personal tour of the offerings from Stephen Jones, senior writer at Christie’s.  The auction itself, reported The New York Times, brought in “the highest total ever in the postwar and contemporary category,” including nearly $87 million for a Mark Rothko painting from 1961.  More ...

NYC Program Students Enjoy Paul Taylor Dance Company

Students and faculty in Hamilton's New York City Program recently enjoyed an inspiring program by the Paul Taylor Dance Company at Lincoln Center.  A highlight of the evening was a 50th anniversary performance of "Aureole," at the end of which Mr. Taylor, one of the premier choreographers of modern dance, joined the dancers on stage to share in the curtain call.  More ...

New York Program Students Tour U.N.

On April 12, Hamilton’s New York City program group took a tour of the United Nations headquarters then received a briefing on the global HIV-AIDS crisis. The briefing tied into the program’s coursework on global health and infectious agents, including a recent reading of Helen Epstein’s The Invisible Cure.  More ...

NYC Program Students Enjoy Metropolitan Opera Performance of Aida

On February 16, participants in Hamilton's New York City program attended a performance of Aida at the Metropolitan Opera. Aida, an opera of four acts by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, tells the love story of an Ethiopian princess enslaved by the Egyptians and an Egyptian war captain.  More ...

New York Program Celebrates Chinese New Year, Tours Metropolitan Museum of Art

Hamilton’s Program in New York students along with faculty director Daniel Chambliss and co-director Susan Morgan celebrated Chinese New Year at Nancy Lee's Pig Heaven, before taking the first guided group tour given of the newly opened American Art Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Jan. 25. Rob Morris '76 Hosts NYC Students at Olympus Partners

Hamilton’s New York City Program students participated in their semester’s final event with a visit Robert Morris ’76 in Stamford, Conn., on Dec. 6. Morris invited the group to dine at his offices, where he manages Olympus Partners, a private equity firm with more than $3 billion in assets under management. To date the group had not spoken with an alumnus in the private equity industry, and Morris hosted a visit to remember.  More ...

Visit to Federal Reserve and Bank of NY Mellon Cap NYC Semester

Hamilton’s New York City Program participants wrapped up the semester with visits to the New York Federal Reserve and the Bank of New York Mellon on Nov. 30. The students began their day with a visit to the Fed. for an informal discussion on the Eurozone crisis.  More ...
