Clinton Kindergartners Get Their Art On

The Wellin Museum of Art recently welcomed nearly 100 kindergarteners from the Clinton Central School District for a morning of arts education. The three classes that visited on June 7 and the two classes that came on June 9 worked with the Wellin educational staff consisting of Amber Spadea, the Andrew W. Mellon Educator for School and Community Programs, and a team of Hamilton College student docents including Anjanae Williams ’18, Elliot Nathan ’17, Julia Dailey ’18, and Reed Johnson ’18.  More ...

Wellin Museum Exhibit Plan Begins with NYC Trip

From May 31 to June 2, faculty and museum administrators from Hamilton College, Skidmore College, University of Albany and Colgate University met in New York City to initiate work on a three-year Teagle Foundation grant through which the colleges will be developing museum-based teaching and learning strategies.  The funds will support a traveling exhibition of contemporary photography, titled This Place that is focused on Israel and the West Bank as both a place and a metaphor.   More ...

Museum Tour Offered Thursday

The Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art’s exhibition, Yun-Fei Ji: The Intimate Universe,  closes on July 2, but Reunions ’16 attendees have the opportunity to tour the show with Tracy L. Adler, museum director and exhibition curator, on Thursday, June 9, at 4 p.m. The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday during reunion weekend.  More ...

Hamilton Receives $6 Million for Arts Programming from Alumnus Fund

A fund established by 1964 Hamilton graduate Daniel W. Dietrich II, who died last year, has provided the college with a $6 million gift to establish The Daniel W. Dietrich ’64 Fund for Innovation in the Arts and The Daniel W. Dietrich ’64 Arts Museum Programming  Fund. These two funds will significantly expand the College’s already robust arts programming for its faculty, students and community.  More ...

Tracy Adler, director of the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art, led an interview with photographer and artist Paul Clemence at the opening of Architecture Biennale 2016 in Venice, Italy, on May 28. She and Clemence were also members of a panel on “Living Timeline: Experience Creators in Art & Architecture.”  More ...

Wellin Museum to Host Senior Art Show

The work of 13 Hamilton College senior art majors will be featured in an exhibition at the  Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art, May 5-21. An opening reception will be held Thursday, May 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.  More ...

Pure Pulp: Paper as Medium

Bridget Donlon, curator of “Pure Pulp: Contemporary Artists Working in Paper at Dieu Donné,” currently on view at the Wellin Museum, led a curatorial tour of the exhibit on March 8.  Donlon is program manager at Dieu Donné, a nonprofit organization based in New York City where the emphasis is on works in paper, meaning that paper is not a substrate but rather is the medium itself.   More ...
