Yao Meets Secretary of Education Arne Duncan

Professor of English Steven Yao met Secretary of Education Arne Duncan at the U.S. Department of Education's Back-To-School Bus Tour kickoff event, which was held at Sequoia High School in Redwood City, Calif.  Yao is currently serving as an American Council on Education Fellow for the 2012-13 academic year at Holy Names University in Oakland, Calif.

Nierman ’13 Studies Dublin’s Obsession with “Greatest Novel Ever Written”

James Joyce’s Ulysses is Topic of her Research

While studying in Dublin, Ireland, Genevieve Nierman ’13 constantly came across references to early 20th century author James Joyce and his famed work Ulysses. She became intrigued by Dublin’s obsession with the novel and was awarded an Emerson Foundation Summer Research Grant to study the relationship between Ulysses and Dublin and to discern what attributes of the novel are responsible for its international success.

Yao Co-Edits Volume of Essays on Ezra Pound and Education

The volume, Ezra Pound and Education, co-edited by Professor of English Steve Yao, was recently published by the National Poetry Foundation. The idea for this collection originated at a conference co-hosted by Hamilton College and Colgate University in 2005 observing the centenary of Pound's graduation from the College.

Professor of English Steven Yao delivered a lecture at the University of Florida in Gainesville on Feb. 24. Invited as part of the series in American Studies, Yao spoke on "Pacific Rim Encounters: Questions of Method and Archive in 'Transpacific' American Studies."

Dean of Faculty Patrick Reynolds announced the promotion of five Hamilton faculty members to the rank of professor.  Todd Franklin, philosophy; Marianne Janack, philosophy; Katherine Kuharic, art; Bruce Walczyk, dance and movement studies; and Steven Yao, English and creative writing, were promoted effective July 1.

Associate Professor of English Steven Yao delivered a lecture titled "Global Literary Studies and the Rising Tide of the Transpacific," as part of the Faculty Research Colloquium Series at UMass, Amherst, on March 1. While there, he also taught a graduate seminar on Global Modernisms.

Yao Speaks at Modern Language Association

January 26, 2011 

Associate Professor of English Steve Yao spoke at the Modern Language Association (MLA) annual meeting held in Los Angeles, Jan. 6-9. Yao delivered a paper, "Comparing American Modernisms," on a panel sponsored by the American Comparative Literature Association (ACLA). The MLA conference is the main national venue for language and literature scholars in higher education.
