Lauren Howe '13 Presents Co-Authored Paper at CAFS Conference

Lauren Howe ’13 presented a paper she co-authored with Morgan Osborn ’14 and Katrina Keay ’14 at the Canadian Association for Food Studies (CAFS) 2012 Conference on May 26. They wrote the paper, “Let’s Dig In! Adirondack Food Culture Through the Ages,” for Professor Robin Kinnel’s Adirondack seminar (ES 220 Culture and Natural History of the Adirondacks).

Hamilton College archaeologists were well-represented on the program of the 77th Annual Meeting of the Society for American Archaeology held April 18-22 in Memphis, Tenn. Several students, faculty members and alumni presented research with other Hamilton alumni in attendance.

Philip Maier '12 Co-Authors Article in Journal Civil Wars

Philip Maier ’12 co-authored a paper in the June, 2012, issue of the journal Civil Wars, published through the University of Birmingham. The forthcoming journal is a special issue – “Assessing the Capabilities of Regional and International Organizations in Civil Wars” – that examines the ability of various organizations to deal with internal conflicts, such as the African Union in Burundi and NATO in Afghanistan.

Program in Washington students at the U.S. Supreme Court

Washington Program Attends Oral Argument at Supreme Court

April 25, 2012 

On April 18, students in the Program in Washington were in the Supreme Court to hear oral argument in the case of Salazar v. Ramah Navajo Chapters, et al., which arose out of a dispute about federal payments for services contracted out to Indian tribes. The case raises important constitutional questions about congressional spending power.

In Art We Trust: Senior Art Show 2012, a presentation of works by 10 graduating art majors, will open at the Bristol Center Hub on Thursday, April 26.  The exhibition includes photography, illustration, painting, mixed media and sculpture. An opening reception will be held Thursday, April 26, from 4-6 p.m., at Bristol Center.

Elly Field '13 Presents at Southern Sociological Society Conference

April 11, 2012 

Elly Field '13 presented a paper with Professor George Hobor of Colgate University at the annual conference of the Southern Sociological Society in New Orleans on March 22. The paper was co-authored with sociology students Amy Dow '12 and David Schwartz '13 and details the results of the group's summer research on the social and economic integration of Utica's Karen and Bantu refugee population.
