Students to Work on Nicaragua Coffee Farm Over Spring Break

Many college students plan on spending their spring break soaking up the sun on a beach; however, 11 Hamilton students, accompanied by a faculty advisor, plan on volunteering on an organic coffee farm in Nicaragua. The trip is part of Hamilton’s Alternative Spring Break program, a student-run volunteer organization. The coffee farms they will visit—Finca Esperanza Verde or Green Hope Farm—play a large role in the community and economy of San Ramon, Nicaragua.  More ...

Curling Team Bound for Nationals

Hamilton’s curling team finished the 2013-2014 season ranked 16th in U.S. College Curling Merit Point Standings, thus qualifying for Nationals which will be held March 14-16 in Blaine, Minn. Hamilton Team 1 will be competing against 15 other teams from all over the country. Team 1 members representing Hamilton are captain Meghan Doherty ’14, Tara Huggins ’14, Josh Devinney ’15 and Jake Davidson ’15.  More ...

D.C. Students Discuss Foreign Policy with Brookings' VP

Students in the Hamilton College Program in Washington, D.C., met on Feb. 12 with Ted Piccone, the acting vice president and director of the foreign policy program at the Brookings Institution, for an in-depth discussion of U.S. democracy promotion. The Brookings Institution is a highly respected, private, nonprofit organization devoted to independent research and innovative policy solutions.  More ...

BLSU Members Attend Solidarity Conference at Yale

Sixteen members of Hamilton’s Black Latin Student Union (BLSU) attended the 19th annual Black Solidarity Conference, held at Yale University on Feb. 13 to 16. This year’s topic was “Rooted: The Odyssey of Black Art,” which explored the diversity of art mediums in their presentation of black culture and in their propagation and/or prevention of racism and stereotyping of the black community.  More ...

It Just Takes a Smigin

Imagine that you need to ask for directions in Madrid, but those three years of high school Spanish didn’t leave a lasting impression. Fear not, because for quick phrases on-the-go, it just takes a Smigin. Smigin is a new mobile translating app that allows users to build phrases and instantly receive accurate translations by selecting sentence fragments from three drop-down boxes.  The app went live in the Apple® app store on Monday, Feb. 17.  More ...

Hamilton Students Take Part in Advocacy Day in Albany

Four Hamilton students traveled to Albany, N.Y., on Feb. 12 to take part in Student Advocacy Day.  Hosted annually by CICU, this event makes it possible for legislators to hear directly from students on what Opportunity Programs across New York State mean in their lives.
