Three Hamilton College women's rowers have been selected national scholar-athletes for the 2009 season by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).
Clair Cassiello '11 (New Windsor, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy), Haley Peterson '11 (Williston, Vt./Champlain Valley Union HS) and Bret Lineberry '11 (Henniker, N.H./St. Paul's School) earned the honor for the first time.
All three were members of Hamilton's second varsity eight that competed at the New York State championships in early May. The second varsity eight finished fifth in the grand final. Cassiello was coxswain, Peterson was in the bow seat and Lineberry was seven-seat.
Student-athletes that make the list need a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or better. The student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic eligibility and must have rowed in the institution's varsity boat for a minimum of 75 percent of the spring races. The program's head coach must be a member in good standing with the CRCA. Eric Summers just completed his fifth year as Hamilton's head coach.
