Instructions for Chairs
Thank you for agreeing to serve as a Chair for NYCAS at Hamilton. Your job is crucial to the smooth and successful running of the conference.
When you arrive in the room assigned to your panel, you should find instructions, working technology (mac and pc platforms), water for participants, and time keeping cards. Audio-visual technicians will be available in the vicinity of G027 to aide participants. Should your panel find itself in need of an AV technician, please call x4700 from the phone located in your room.
Chairs should begin by collecting a written statement from each participant, including their name (and pronunciation), their institutional affiliation, the title of their talk, and any other details that they would like the Chair to use when they are introduced.
Chairs will time each participant. Because each session is restricted to one and a half hours, the Chair must restrict participants on panels to 20 minutes. This will ensure that there is ample time for discussion of each paper. Chairs of roundtables must restrict each participant to 10 minutes. This will ensure that there is ample time for discussion among panelists and with the audience. For the purposes of time keeping, we have provided each room with cards labeled "5 minutes", "2 minutes", and "out of time".
Please direct participants to coffee and refreshments, which will be available in the atriettes located on the ground floor of the Science Center.
