Assistant Director, Annual Fund

The position of Assistant Director, Annual Giving, reporting to the Executive Director Annual Giving, is one that requires an experienced professional with expertise and leadership in all phases of volunteer management and institutional development. The primary responsibility of this position is development, coordination and support of Annual Fund activities and fundraising with assigned (approximately 10-12 alumni classes – 3-4,000 alumni) in order to achieve annual giving goals and objectives. This includes, but is not limited to, cultivating relationships with key volunteers and leadership donors, recruiting class caller volunteers, coordinating and managing successful class fundraising campaigns, implementing effective leadership giving programs within each class, cultivating and soliciting Alumni Fund prospects as necessary, and contributing to the overall effectiveness of the Communications & Development office. The position will also take a lead role in managing aspects of solicitations and stewardship for assigned classes. Additionally, the Assistant Director will play a key role in maintaining pertinent web content and the authoring of solicitation messages.
Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree; a minimum of three years of professional nonprofit fundraising experience (preferably in higher or secondary education) or other directly related experience, including recruiting, training and managing fundraising volunteers; excellent organizational and oral skills; superior written communications skills; the ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently; competency in standard office software; flexibility to creatively conceive and adapt different approaches to varied constituencies. Travel and some weekend responsibilities are required. Knowledge of the key issues facing higher education is desirable.
Preference will be given to candidates with professional development experience who have demonstrated their ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, to cultivate relationships with a well-educated and highly sophisticated volunteer pool, to analyze and interpret data to develop successful fundraising strategies, and to address sensitive issues raised by alumni.
