Information for New Parents and Families

Before your student arrives on campus

(Students arrive for orientation August 18)
  1. Complete the family information form
    (this includes contact information, communication preference and hometown newspaper info.)
  2. Have your student waive (or enroll in) student health insurance. The charge appears on your Hamilton College bill. If your son/daughter has coverage through another provider, a waiver must be completed to have the charge removed.
  3. Sign up for a My Hamilton account
    (enables a parent to view bills and financial aid information, easily register for events on- and off-campus, and more...)
  4. Sign up for Electronic Billing
  5. Read about Student Privacy and Parent Expectations (FERPA)

First-Year Experience (FYE) Program

The First-Year Experience (FYE) is all about creating opportunities for first-year students to feel connected to Hamilton from the moment they arrive on campus. A number of FYE core sessions are being planned by the FYE leaders on topics such as wellness, the honor code, diversity and difference, sexual assault and alcohol, and time management.

Academic Advising

Academic advising at Hamilton helps students make responsible, informed decisions about their intellectual development. Working with a faculty advisor, students craft an educational plan reflecting their particular interests and abilities, and the College’s purposes and goals.
