Scheduling a Tutor

The Peer Tutoring Office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. in Christian Johnson 223. The Academic Support Coordinator will be there to answer your questions about tutoring support and will ask you to fill out a tutor request card. You may also call the office at 315-859-4374, or e-mail basmith.

Once you have filled out a Tutor Request Card and have received the assignment (by e-mail) from the academic support coordinator with the name and contact information of the tutor, it is your responsibility to contact the tutor and make arrangements for your first meeting.

Here is the e-mail assignment form:

I have assigned you to meet with the following peer tutor:

Campus Address:

Please contact the tutor right away to arrange a meeting at a mutually convenient time and place.  I suggest the following locations for meetings:  classrooms, seminar rooms, dorm lounges, Science Center Atrium, Beinecke Village, Cafe Opus, K.J. Commons, K.J. “Team” Rooms, or any location that is away from distractions and noise.  Do not meet in dorm rooms.

When you come to your first meeting with the tutor, bring with you your course syllabus and assignments and returned quizzes and exams.  You should be prepared at each tutorial session to summarize and discuss course readings, lectures, current assignments, and to ask specific questions about the material.  If you need to cancel or reschedule a tutorial, you are responsible for notifying the tutor ahead of time.  Be sure to reschedule right away.

Keep a tutor log, observe the honor code, fill out progress strips, and turn in evaluation of tutoring forms when they are requested.  Be sure to meet with your professors and to take advantage of departments’ review sessions.  Please look over the attached handout about peer tutorials.

Please contact me at x4374 or basmith if you have any questions about this tutorial, problems with scheduling, or if you drop the course.
