Sheridan Memorial Chicken Wing Eating Contest

Ezra Rosenberg '10

On Thursday October 4th friends of the late Andrew Sheridan '09 will host the first Annual Andrew Sheridan '09 Memorial Wing Eating Contest in conjunction with the HAVOC executive board.  Sheridan died suddenly while playing soccer during winter recess of last year.
Among his many passions at Hamilton, Sheridan was an avid volunteer for the Cornhill Youth Soccer Program in Utica, which is run through HAVOC. The Cornhill Program provides a soccer league for underprivileged Utica children. All equipment for the league is funded entirely through charitable donations, and the coaching and mentoring is on an entirely volunteer basis. Sheridan was a volunteer coach  for the program both of his years on the hill. more . . .

Activism Hot on Campus as Students Speak Out

The Social Justice Initiative Project Examines Race Issues

Meredith Kennedy '09

The Social Justice Initiative Project was founded last semester after several meetings and increased desire from students to make a difference.  The budding organization consists of a range of diverse students who are interested in creating a forum to discuss issues of race and related subjects on the Hamilton College campus.
The Social Justice Initiative was developed by a group of students, including many involved in the HEOP and Posse opportunity programs, after they met and talked about what it means to be a student of color at Hamilton. Their dissatisfaction with many facets of our college community led them to develop three areas of interest in which they would like to see improvements. These three areas include the curriculum, collaboration between multicultural groups, and structural race at Hamilton.
