Committees of the Student Assembly

Committees are the workhorses of Student Assembly.  Each committee tackles countless issues throughout the year and updates the assembly on its progress every Monday.  Below you will find a list of all the Student Assembly committees and brief descriptions outlining their purpose.  If you have any questions/suggestions for a specific committee please email the chair of that committee.

Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is a closed committee that meets on an ad hoc basis.  The members are the President of the Student Assembly, Vice President of the Student Assembly, Treasurer, Secretary, Parliamentarian, and all Class Presidents.  Generally, the committee is only called to meet when an issue of utmost importance cannot wait until the next Student Assembly meeting to be discussed.  The meeting has also been used to flesh out the agenda for the assembly and to get a sense for where each class stands.

Funding Committee
The Funding Committee is a closed committee that meets once a week to go over budget requests from student organizations.  The committee consists of the Student Assembly treasurer and the Secretary-Treasurers from each class delegation.  The committee reviews each budget request and then presents its recommended funding amount to the entire assembly for discussion and voting.

Chair: Andrew Brodsky, abrodsky@hamilton.edu, satreas@hamilton.edu

Technology Committee
Student Assembly's newest and most awesome committee.  The  Technology Committee is responsible for student issues pertaining to technology use on campus.  The committee works very closely with ITS and often serves as a student voice in their decisions, in addition to picking movies for the Movie Channel.  Some projects the committee has worked on recently include improving Verizon cell phone service, helping get the Hill Card accepted off campus, and leading the student discussion on cable TV service.

Chair: Katy Smith, cdsmith@hamilton.edu

This is an open committee.  Anyone can go to the meetings and voice their opinion.

Food Committee
The Food Committee deals with issues regarding the services provided by Bon Appétit.  Issues the Food Committee is currently working on include making a continental breakfast available in McEwen on the weekends and ensuring enough vegetarian/vegan options are offered at each meal.

Chairs: Annie Hull, ahull@hamilton.edu, and Fallon Chipidza, fchipidz@hamilton.edu

This is an Open Committee.  Anyone can go to the meetings and voice their opinion.

Social Traditions
The Social Traditions Committee organizes and directs most traditions at Hamilton.  The Citrus Bowl, Hockey Town, and Spring on the Hill are all examples of events the committee is tasked with organizing each year.  The committee also plays a significant role in organizing FebFest and is constantly looking for new traditions to start.  Right now the committee is working on compiling a "traditions book" filled with all the traditions (past and present) at Hamilton so as to have a detailed record that can be passed down through the years.

Chairs: Caitlyn Williams, cmwillia@hamilton.edu, and Jenn Andersen, jaanders@hamilton.edu

This is an Open Committee.  Anyone can go to the meetings and voice their opinion.

Student Interest
The Student Interest Committee tackles issues regarding student life on campus.  Past issues the committee has dealt with include having the Health Center open on weekends, making business card production at the print shop available to students, and reporting on the status of the Sophomore Seminar program.  The committee has also hosted events in the past such as trips to the Saranac Brewery and a Battle of the Bands.

Chairs: Sam Hutchinson, swhutchi@hamilton.edu

This is an Open Committee.  Anyone can go to the meetings and voice their opinion.

Culture and Accessibility
The Culture and Accessibility Committee of the Student Assembly will strive to promote events, causes, and initiatives that are directly aimed at enriching the campus community through exposure to, raising awareness for, or representation of issues pertaining to multiculturalism, physical ability, and/or philosophical ideology (spiritual or otherwise).  The Culture and Accessibility Committee will co-sponsor initiatives with organizations whose objectives are directly related to the committee's agenda and will also sponsor similar programs and activities independently.

Chair: Andrew Taub, ataub@hamilton.edu

This is an Open Committee.  Anyone can go to the meetings and voice their opinion.

Facilities Committee
The Facilities Committee deals with and responds to issues regarding physical resources, residential life, and environmental concerns.  Previous issues the committee has dealt with include reviewing the lighting conditions around campus, working to improve the safety of students at crosswalks and on bridges, and advocating for a food compost.

Chair: Tiffany Schreck, tschreck@hamilton.edu

This is an Open Committee.  Anyone can go to the meetings and voice their opinion.

Constitution Committee
The Constitution Committee typically meets only when the Student Assembly Constitution or Bylaws need to be changed.

Chair: Patrick Landers, planders@hamilton.edu

Elections Committee
The Elections Committee conducts all Student Assembly elections.  All elections (except for the freshman class elections which occur in the first half of the first semester and the Student Assembly President and Vice President elections which occur after Thanksgiving break) occur in the spring.  The Election Committee advertises each election via emails and through spots in The Spectator.  The committee has also made recommendations on ways to improve the election process, which the assembly has then dealt with as a whole.
