Statement of Community:
A Message from the Students of Hamilton College
The Hamilton College community gains strength from the diversity of its members. The expression and consideration of differing viewpoints represents education at its best. In our efforts to cultivate an inclusive environment, it is essential that we seek to respect the unique perspectives of individuals on our campus. Students are encouraged to consider the implications of their words and actions. It is a reality that in any diverse community, misunderstandings and conflicts might arise. To work through these disagreements, we as a student body promote engagement in dialogue to create mutual understanding and expanded knowledge. With this in mind, we urge each student to help promote a welcoming community for all.
--FINAL DRAFT: November 30, 2009
i. We will need at least 2/3 of the students to vote in favor of the statement for it to be approved and then sent to incoming first-year students and added to student handbook
ii. The statement passes and will be added as a referendum to the SA ballot
Announcements
HamPoll is posting a survey regarding the SA election and the Statement of Community
i. If students fill out the HamPoll survey then they may confuse that with the actual ballot, will make clear that HamPoll survey is not actual election
ii. The people who are more likely to vote in the elections would also be more likely to fill out the HamPoll survey
iii. If the survey is shorter then more people would be likely to fill it out
iv. The survey will probably run this Wednesday or Thursday
Meeting Adjourned: 10:00 p.m.
