Student Assembly Meeting

February 1, 2010
·         9:05- Call to Order
·         Introduced new 2011 Representative: John Marchessault
·         Committee Sign Up sheet sent around
·         Discussion regarding Diversity and Accessibility Committee
o   D&AC created ast a go between for Hamilton Community and underrepresented student groups
o   Responsible for bringing speakers and programs to campus, also cosponsor many events with other organizations
o   With the creation of the Cultural Education Center, the D&AC's role is changing, and they're trying to redefine themselves
o   Suggestions:
§ Rename committee consistent with new function- probably will be suggested next week
§ More events, with opportunities to get off the Hill for a weekend
§ May poll the campus to see what everyone thinks the function of the D&AC should be
·         Committee Reports
o   Movie and Technology: survey is up until midnight tonight! Don't forget to vote!
o   Social Traditions: in the midst of planning Mr. Hamilton and Feb Fest
§ Still looking for Mr. Hamilton contestants!  Email cwillia@hamilton.edu before February 5 if you want to compete!
§ They're also looking for a few judges, so email if you're interested in that
§ Feb Fest is February 13th-20th; buttons will be on sale the week before
o   Food
§ Meetings are being reformatted- instead, the request lists will just be emailed and meetings will talk about broader issues
§ There will be chocolate chips in commons!
§ The milkshake machine in the Diner is broken but they're working on it
§ Meetings are biweekly, usually Wednesday after 4
o   Facilities
§ Meeting with Steve Bellona tomorrow
§ Suggestion: clean up papers in entrance of Science Center (they blow around whenever the doors open), potentially put up a rack like in the library to keep them neat
o   Student Interests
§ First meeting is Sunday night
§ A campus wide email will be sent later this week, so be on the lookout for it
