Patrick Cooke '06A passenger train traveling east at 53 mph leaves Sacramento at 4:43 am. A freight train traveling south at 47 mph leaves Cincinnati at 7:26 am. How much will a dozen eggs cost in Chicago? Thinking like this guaranteed that Pat would never work at the Q-Lit center so he became a writing tutor instead. |

Karen Haedrich '06Hi everyone! My name is Karen Haedrich. I'm a junior, a life-time Darksider, a Creative Writing major, and a Japanese minor. I will be heading to Tokyo for a study abroad next semester, so sign up for appointments with me while you can! Seriously, though, I am excited to be a Writing Center tutor again this year, and I hope everyone has a great semester. |

Joe Jansen '07Joe is a sophomore Government major from Ilion, New York. Where is Ilion you might ask? It's about twenty miles east of Clinton; so yes, he is a "local." And in keeping with local custom, he recently attended a demolition derby at his county's fair. It was amazing! Joe had never been surrounded by such a wide array of mullets and so few teeth in his entire life. Plus, did you know there are actually rules in a demolition derby? Apparently a driver broke them at the derby Joe attended, and a toothless woman used every expletive imaginable to correct the situation. If you want to hear more exciting stories about local indigenous culture you must sign up for an appointment with Joe. |

Sarah Lozo '06Sarah, a native of Rochester, NY, is a junior English major. She enjoys movies, music, thunderstorms, and Diner Breakfast; she can't stand being late and, like most college students, is perpetually sleep-deprived. Also, after three years of college and twenty years of life, Sarah still has trouble sitting properly in chairs. She's planning to spend the Spring semester in Scotland, although once Winter hits Clinton, she'll probably regret that she didn't choose Australia or some other (warm) place with beaches. |

Brendan Mahoney '05Brendan is a senior history major who spends most of his productive time reading about dead people. Having spent the past year in England, he is ready to read some good, old-fashioned, to-the-point, American prose. So stop by and visit if you have some, or you just want to distract him. |

Ian Mandel '06Ian Mandel put off writing this bio for several weeks, and it was not until he saw all the other writing tutor bios up on the website, that he finally decided that action needed to be taken. He felt left out that other tutors had their pictures on the website, but that his was not. Yet deep down he knew that he had noone to blame but himself for repeatedly putting off writing his bio. Sure, he was busy doing homework, working at the SPEC, in the Writing Center and with the Hamilton College Democrats, but there really wasn't any excuse for his laziness. So here it is: Ian's bio. Want to know more? Ian is currently a Sophomore and hails from Nyack, New York, a town 18 miles north-west of New York City. Still need to know more? Well, then you'll have to come to the Writing Center and sign up for an appointment... |

Shayna McHugh '05Shayna, a.k.a. the Elf of Steel, is only 5 feet 2 inches tall, but she makes up for her miniscule height by being 135 lb. of pure muscle. She is addicted to capoeira, a Brazilian martial art. A chemistry major, Shayna hopes to get a Ph.D. and discover the cure for cancer. If that doesn't work out, she'll probably join the circus. Shayna's favorite Snapple flavor is Lime Green Tea, and she can get dangerously hyper if she overdoses on sugar. Bring her your paper at the Writing Center, but if you're a Red Sox fan, prepare for an argument. |

Alex Morrison '05Alex is a senior Economics major and Music minor. When he's not singing in the College Choir or in The Buffers, he's probably playing the piano or the guitar in a small, dark practice room. Alex is happy to be your humble writing tutor servant for as many hours as you'd like. Alex also enjoys playing basketball, ultimate frisbee, and larger than average slices of pecan pie. This bio has been brought to you by the number 12 and the color green. |

Laura Oman '07Laura is a sophomore this year and will soon be forced to pick a major. She enjoys English and other subjects lacking concrete answers, mostly because she doesn't like being wrong. After surviving four years in the winter wonderland we know as Hamilton, Laura hopes to teach English in the temperate state of Hawaii. |

Katie Plumb '05My name is Katie Plumb first name like everyone else's and last name like the fruit. Most people just call me Plumber (endearing and affectionate I know). When I am not obsessing over a 15 page English paper and lecturing strangers on the golden rules of grammar (that is what we do as writing tutors right?), I can be found dancing myself into sweaty oblivion in the Kirkland Loft or out on the basketball court with the dance team trying to ignore the animalistic hooting of the overdressed Dogpound (you know you love them-GO CONTINENTALS). So anyways, don't be scared and run away. Come on over to the writing center. We promise to help you write real good. |

Heather Schrum '05Heather Schrum, lover of oldies and oil paints, formerly has been spotted behind the help desk at the Science Library. Seeing, however, that the Science Library been emptied and deserted, she now looks forward to spending her next two years as a Writing Center Tutor. When she is not enjoying her classes, friendships, and the lovely weather at Hamilton College, Heather, a sentimental, family girl, enjoys spending time with her fellow Schrums in the fine state of Connecticut. Over the years, she has also taken a liking to Erik, trilobites, sushi, and levels (yes, the tool). |

Alex Sear '05This virgo brunette hails from Canterbury, Connecticut, and she is equally interested in philosophy, math, film, pinot grigio, good grammar and dancing like a fool to the oldies. In Alex's world (like Wonderland, but on a snow-covered hill in the middle of nowhere), things that are good include ice cream, napping in hammocks, the Upper West Side, British movies and raincoats. Things that are horrible and generally no good include cucumbers, traffic, rollercoasters, people who are not logical, and especially orange, because, let's face it, "Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed"(1). She is most often compared to Hermione from Harry Potter, mostly because she frequently manages to be in two, if not three, places at once. Senior year saw Alex shift her campus hangout from Opus to the Little Pub, and she is quite happy they now have Blue Moon. And, before you ask, she has absolutely no plans for after graduation and she's keeping it that way for as long as possible. Citation is cool: (1) Legally Blonde |

Michelle Skornicki '06Michelle is a junior biology/math major. She plans to study in France next semester! She reminds others to never use a long word when a diminutive one will do and to never split an infinitive. Foreign words and phrases are not apropos and the passive voice is to be avoided. Finally, writing carefully, dangling participles must be avoided. For more friendly and sound advice, you'll have to come meet her at the writing center.:) |

Dan Walker '05
Dan is a senior with a double concentration in English and music. He is a member of the College Choir, College Hill Singers, and is co-music director of the Buffers. The closing of McEwen on weekends dealt Dan, like many other diehard Dark-Siders, a crushing blow from which he has still not fully recovered. Dan enjoys playing bass, running, and watching Schwarzenegger movies. He also sleeps every now and then. |
