Hamilton Publications Sustainability Practices

Off-Campus Publications

Hamilton's high-volume, high-end publications printed off-campus are now Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, printed on recycled paper stock containing post-consumer waste (PCW). FSC certification is the "gold standard" in printing and sustainability. In order to be FSC certified, the publication must follow a stringent "chain-of-custody" from the forest, to the paper manufacturer, to the paper merchant, to the printer. Each vendor must go through the extensive FSC certification process.

Hamilton letterhead, envelopes and business cards are printed in-house on Strathmore Writing Recycled, a 30 percent post-consumer waste (PCW), process chlorine-free (PCF) paper stock. Strathmore paper stock is manufactured locally by Mohawk Fine Papers, a family-owned mill located in Cohoes, N.Y. Mohawk is the largest purchaser of wind power in the industry, procuring 100 percent of its electricity from emission-free wind power.

All Other In-House Print Pieces

The Hamilton College Print Shop uses paper stock that is at least 30 percent recycled process chlorine-free (PCW-PCF) for brochures, flyers, cards, invitations and posters.

Copy Paper

All copy paper used in copiers and printers across campus is 100 percent recycled (PCW, PCF).
