  • Turn off all lights when leaving your dorm.
  • Open your dorm blinds during the day to use natural light.
  • Adjust temperatures seasonally
  • Adjust heating to align with the temperatures outside (68 in the winter, 78 in the summer).
  • Unplug all electronics that are not being used when leaving the dorm.
  • Switch out incandescent bulbs in lamps for LED bulbs.

Water

  • When brushing teeth, washing hands, or shaving, turn off faucet when not using water 
  • Do full loads of laundry.
  • Use cold water.
  • Take shorter showers.

Food

  • Consciously serve yourself at the dining hall
  • When getting food, try a smaller serving first to sample the food before having a larger portion to minimize food waste 
  • When taking food to go, use your green to go containers or cups to minimize single-use paper waste (include a hyperlink to fill it forward)
  • Use a reusable water bottle and refill it at one of Hamilton’s ____ hydration stations.
  • When sorting waste at the dining halls, please put napkins in the landfill bin and food waste in the food waste bin.

In the Classroom

  • Consider using a laptop or tablet to take digital notes instead of paper.
  • Limit printing, consider doing your readings on a laptop or tablet rather than printing them out.
  • Take a course on sustainability offered by Hamilton.

  • Join an organization committed to sustainability on Hamilton’s campus.
