Event Description

Professor of Art, Robert Knight, presents his project Strangers in a Strange Land, an interactive web-based film project that presents stories about the immigration detention system in the UK. Since 2019, Knight has collaborated with Refugee Tales and Gatwick Detainees Welfare Group, two UK nonprofits that work to raise awareness about the indefinite detention of asylum seekers in the UK. Knight's work includes videos and photographs, and juxtaposes the architecture of detention, migration, and border protection and their associated bureaucracy with the humanism of individuals and communities struggling to support asylum seekers.   Knight's project has been supported through Levitt Center Faculty Innovation Grants and The Christian A. Johnson Fund for Enhanced International Understanding, and has involved the assistance of 10 Hamilton students.
