VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE (VITA)
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers free tax help to low to moderate income (generally $42,000 and below) families who cannot or choose not to prepare their own tax returns. The Levitt Center works with the Mohawk Valley Asset-Building Coalition, a group of 30+ community agencies to complete this project. Hamilton students are certified volunteer tax preparers through the IRS and will each spend 15 hours filing taxes at the VITA sites at the Resource Center for Independent Living. To participate sign up for Economics 235.
Course Development Grants
The Levitt Center encourages professors to add VITA to their course with two $750 grants for faculty who integrate VITA into an existing or new course.
