The Associated Colleges in China program is part of Hamilton College and upholds the College policy concerning Title IX.

Title IX of the 1972 Education Amendments was the first comprehensive law to prohibit sex discrimination against students and employees of educational institutions. It defines and ensures equality in education.

Title IX states: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program receiving federal financial assistance.”

Title IX applies to academic programs, among other things, and as such, extends to Hamilton’s programs abroad. It explicitly prohibits sex discrimination, which includes sexual harassment, defined as unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature that denies or limits a student’s ability to participate in or receive benefits, services, or opportunities from the program be it student-student, employee-student, third party discrimination, gender discrimination/harassment, or sexual misconduct.

Hamilton College Policy Statement: The Sexual Misconduct Board exists to ensure that all students, faculty, staff and guests can work, study, and enjoy the society of the community without being subjected to harassment or sexual misconduct. Hamilton believes in a zero tolerance policy for harassment and sexual misconduct. Hamilton College views retaliatory behavior to be just as severe as the initial harassment itself.
