DMC Letter

April 2016

Dear Accepted Student,

On behalf of Hamilton’s Days-Massolo Center and the Diversity & Inclusion Office, I would like to extend my warmest greetings and congratulations on being accepted to Hamilton College.  As a graduate of Hamilton College, and currently on the forefront of student academic and personal support at the College, I can personally appreciate the transition you’re about to go through.  It is important to share with you the range of services offered by our office, and community.

Hamilton attracts and supports students from diverse racial, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, religions, nationalities, and abilities.  The College’s more than 200 student groups include a variety of multicultural student organizations including the Asian Cultural Society, the Black and Latino Student Union, Hillel, the International Students’ Association, Muslim Students’ Association, Rainbow Alliance, and the Womyn’s Center.  The Days-Massolo Center provides education and academic collaborations, advocacy and support for all of our campus constituents in helping prepare our graduates to be active global citizens.  New activities include inclusive community projects, diversity and leadership trainings, and Trans* trainings while continually building new partnerships for the benefit of the entire community.  Additionally, faculty, staff and students collaborate to provide leadership for the development of educational, cultural, and social programs that enhance intercultural understanding and foster a campus climate that celebrates and respects the uniqueness of all its members. One of the things that I love most about Hamilton is that if you don’t see something you want to join, you are free to create your own interest group.

The Days-Massolo Center is committed to promoting respect and civility while encouraging free expression of views, strengthening partnerships and networks that assist in the increase and retention of historically underrepresented groups, and creating dialogue across difference. To learn more about our programs and collaborations, visit our website: www.hamilton.edu/about/diversity

I look forward to personally welcoming you to what is now “our community” and to working with you as you explore all that Hamilton has to offer.  Please feel free to visit our office when you’re on campus, or contact me at 315.859.4252 or pbreland@hamilton.edu.  Again, congratulations and I look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,

Phyllis A.H. Breland
