People don’t join the Hamilton community for just four years; they belong for a lifetime. For many students, membership in that enduring community begins with the personal interview. Furthermore, because the admission committee works hard to ensure “fit” with Hamilton when determining admission decisions, personal interviews are strongly encouraged.

An interview will not only provide us with a strong sense of your personal strengths and interests that may not be obvious in an application, it will also give you a chance to ask questions and learn more about Hamilton in a personal setting.

On-campus interviews

Associate Dean of Admission Tom MarianoPersonal interviews are conducted by admission officers or Hamilton seniors who are carefully selected and trained for this purpose. On-campus interviews are available as follows:

  • Weekdays: 9:15 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 1:15 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.

On-campus interviews are available to seniors through January 31 and become available to juniors starting on February 1. Because our interviews are often booked weeks in advance, we encourage you to allow adequate lead time in arranging for your visit.

Off-Campus Interviews

Off-campus interviews are only available to students after the submission of their application for admission. Applicants who are unable to visit campus for an interview, may request an off-campus interview with an alumni representative through their applicant portal. If we cannot locate an alumni volunteer in the area, a Skype interview will be assigned. Requests are handled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Deadlines to request an off-campus interview are as follows, Early Decision Plan I: November 18; Early Decision Plan II: January 6; and Regular Decision: January 10.

International applicants in some countries have the option of submitting an interview for Hamilton by using our partners InitialView or Vericant. Once you are on the InitialView or Vericant websites, simply follow the instructions for applicants, which will enable you to register for an in-person interview with one of their local representatives. This interview will be recorded and sent to Hamilton upon your request. Your interview needs to be completed no later than Friday, January 18 for it to be considered in our application process for the Regular Decision plan.

Interviews for transfer applicants

While a personal interview is not required, it is strongly recommended. The interview is informative for both the student and the admission committee. We encourage transfer students to interview on campus. Students who would like to interview but are unable to make it to campus can arrange a phone or Skype interview by contacting Jack Nivison, coordinator of transfer admission, at jnivison@hamilton.edu.
