Hamilton’s Student Fellowships Coordinator will work with you to identify and apply for nationally and internationally competitive opportunities.
International Summer Research Funding
This new program is designed to support second- and third-year Hamilton students who wish to conduct summer research outside the United States in locations such as universities, government agencies, museums, archives, art galleries, archaeological and historical sites, research libraries, laboratories, and field sites.
Recent Award Recipients

Catherine Crone ’13 has been awarded a Royster Fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for graduate study in musicology beginning next fall. This prestigious fellowship is open to UNC graduate students in all departments and provides five years of financial support including tuition, fees and a $22,000 stipend each academic year. In 2012-2013 29 fellowships were awarded.

Jane Rouse ’12 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Turkey. A May graduate, Rouse majored in mathematics with a double minor in French and anthropology.

Professor of History Douglas Ambrose has been awarded a Fulbright scholar grant to teach American studies in Croatia for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Austin Walker ’12 has been awarded a Fulbright Grant to Kenya. He will spend the 2012-13 academic year working on his project “Kenyan Youth Development: Youth as Kenya’s Development Architects” in Nyanza Province of western Kenya. Walker will rejoin the Lwala Community Alliance staff and director Robert Kasabala to build upon the baseline study about youth perspectives on development that they conducted last summer.

Amelia Mattern ’12, a candidate for graduation this month, has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Vietnam. She is a mathematics/computer science double major at Hamilton.

Eli Remillard ’12, a candidate for May graduation, has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Mongolia. A Dean’s List student, Remillard is a history major at Hamilton.

Erika Desmond ’12, a candidate for May graduation, has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Austria. She is a creative writing major at Hamilton.

Elizabeth Parker-Magyar ’12, a candidate for May graduation, has been awarded a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship to Jordan. She is a world politics major at Hamilton.

A Hamilton student who chooses to remain anonymous has been named a Barry M. Goldwater Scholar for the 2012-13 academic year. This student is among 282 undergraduate sophomores and juniors to be awarded scholarships for the 2012–2013 academic year and is the 16th Hamilton student to receive the Goldwater since 2002. The award is considered the premier national undergraduate award in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering.

Denise Ghartey ’12 has been awarded Hamilton’s Bristol Fellowship. The Bristol Fellowship was begun in 1996 as part of a gift to the college by William M. Bristol Jr., (Class of 1917). The $22,000 fellowship is designed to encourage Hamilton students to experience the richness of the world by living outside the United States for one year and studying an area of great personal interest.
