Susan Hartman
Journalist
Susan Hartman was educated at Kirkland College, where she twice won the George A. Watrous Poetry Prize, and received an M.F.A. in writing from Columbia University. She has written cover stories and magazine length profiles from places as different as Northern Ireland and Spain, Las Vegas and Brooklyn for The New York Times, Newsday, and The Christian Science Monitor. She has reported on popular culture and city life, on travel and the arts.
Susie has published two books of poetry: Dumb Show and El Abogado, as well as a chapbook, Satyr. Her poems have also appeared in Carolina Quarterly, Hanging Loose, Black Warrior Review, and other national literary magazines. This fall, she will be directing a reading series at The Brooklyn Lyceum, and this spring she will teach an outdoor poetry workshop at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
She has taught writing at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, at the University of Central Florida, and is now on the journalism and creative writing faculty at New York University. Email: susanhartman@verizon.net
