Joseph A. Zizzi '81

Joseph A. Zizzi ’81 of Orchard Park, N.Y., was an interventional cardiologist and ­professor who enjoyed teaching medical ­students and internists at the University of Buffalo Medical School.

A dedicated father, he took great pride in the accomplishments of his four children and loved spending time with them in the Adirondacks, in particular in Old Forge. En route, when the children were little, the family would make a stop in Clinton to stroll around the Hamilton campus.

Zizzi was born on Jan. 3, 1959, in ­Buffalo, the son of Joseph Zizzi and the former Laura Mirochiski. At Hamilton he majored in psychology and biology and joined Chi Psi fraternity. He went on to earn his medical degree at the State ­University of New York at Buffalo in 1985.

A fellow in the American Academy of Cardiology, Zizzi practiced in his hometown and was affiliated with the Erie County Medical Center and Sisters of Charity Hospital of Buffalo. He was named one of the best 100 doctors in Buffalo by Buffalo Spree magazine.

Zizzi was an avid skier, golfer, and fisherman. His two daughters, who were dancers, could count on him as a partner in the father-daughter dances at every recital. And he loved volleyball games, especially when daughter Christine Zizzi ’18 took to the court.

Survivors include a son, three daughters, and a sister, Maria Ann Foti ’86, among other relatives.
